My landscape paintings represent impressions and observations about how the subject has affected me. Shape , value and color are my tools I use to make a personal statement about the subject. If I don’t feel a “ spark “ while painting the subject it doesn’t come through in my painting.
Kath Hess is a representational artist working primarily on pastel landscapes and still lifes. A graduate of RIT with a B.A. degree in Fine and Applied Arts, she has studied pastel with Sari Gaby, Susan Ogilvie, Robert Carsten and Liz Haywood-Sullivan. She says “ I’ve been painting and doing artwork my whole life. It is and will continue to be a never ending journey of discovery and learning.” Kath is currently a signature member of the Genesee Valley Plein Air Painters and the Rochester Art Club. She is also an active board member of the Rochester Art Club and the Penfield Art Association,as well as a member of the Rochester Area Colored Pencil Society and the Adirondack Pastel Society. As of January 2010, she is also a member of the Main Street Artists, in the Suzi Zefting- Kuhn Artworks studio in the Hungerford building in Rochester, NY. Recently, Kath mentored with the Pieters Life Center, working with special needs student artists. Her most recent art affiliation is with art 100 for 100.
